• This antique East Turkestan rug was produced during the first quarter of the 20th century, at a time just before the great Ottoman Empire was about to meet its demise and break into the modern states that exist today. The tribal designs at the center of the Khotan rug, combined with the famed harshang crab design in the border, are reminiscent of the iconic antique Caucasian rugs. This is not surprising to see in the antique rugs from Khotan. This is mostly due to the fact that weavers of these magnificent area rugs were influenced by designs and patterns from all across the silk road. That is what makes this beautiful rugs so unique and special. They all have a touch of influence from different areas incorporated into their designs an colors but they all still retain that special Khotan feel that is unique to them.
