Whether seen individually or as a group, they evoke a sense of charm and fantasy with the undeniable signature of Michael's style. Drawing profoundly from Michael's background as a sculptor, each piece emerges from hand-sculpted clay and offers a child-like quality with an inherent depth of meaning. Every year, they make their highly anticipated appearance and it feels like they bring a particular magic with them. The whole process is like a profound family ritual that sweetly symbolizes everything the holidays are about."

The Tree of Life collection takes its inspiration from the imagery that floats around classic storytelling. Whether the objects are seen individually or grouped, they evoke a sense of charm and fantasy. Drawing profoundly from Michael's background as a sculptor, each piece emerges from hand-sculpted clay and offers a child-like quality with an inherent depth of meaning. "There is such power in narrative images for me. There is a feeling that we're creating an entire imaginary world, building designs around interactive themes that are familiar to all of us. The shapes are obvious and immediate and, at the same time, impressionistic and lyrical - the way a small child might imagine the scenes in a story he's being told. The image of the Tree of Life is one of my favorites. It is an idea that is so widely expressed in all cultures and by all religions that it becomes a universal symbol of hope."

I love almost everything Michael Adam makes. This took some time to adjust to, admittedly. It was larger and gaudier than I expected from the photo. And the butterflies looked like insects. It requires exactly the right photo to make it look good. That’s the frame. The delivery time was insane. I ordered it in December and received it in April. In truth, it wasn’t worth the wait.. The Flights of Fancy collection is a series of unique objects that celebrate whimsy in daily life. Whether seen individually or among other pieces, they evoke a sense of charm and fantasy. Drawing profoundly from a background as a sculptor, each piece emerges from hand-sculpted clay and offers a child-like quality with an inherent depth of meaning. This sculpture is limited to 500 editions and individually crafted so that no two pieces are ever exactly alike. "There is such power in narrative images for me. The shapes are obvious and immediate and, at the same time, impressionistic and lyrical “ the way a small child might imagine the scenes in a story he's being told. I've always been fascinated by objects of ritual. The idea that an object can have such deep, emotional significance to so many people is deeply moving. As an Armenian, the foliated cross has an especially personal meaning to me. Leaf shapes traditionally found at the tips of the cross is a representation I love as it enforces the cross as a symbol brimming with life, potential, and hope".

Michael Aram's limited edition sculptures are handmade artistic explorations inspired by objects and ideas that capture Michael's imagination. The Sculptures are individually crafted so that no two pieces are ever exactly alike. The moon gates are inspired by traditional round passageways found in Chinese landscape architecture which act as entry and exit points to the garden. The circular elements are symbolic of the idea of completion, representing and celebrating the cohesiveness of the family, as members pass through the gate to return home. Another interpretation is that, like the moon, the opening is symbolic of the cycle of life, and renewal as the full moon marks wholeness and is suggestive of new beginnings. "I love thinking of these sculptures as a portal into nature. By looking at the moon gate, I am reminded of the delicate balance between man and nature, and my need for connection between my home life and the beauty and abundance of nature."

The Michael Aram Black Orchid collection was inspired by the powerful sensuality of orchids and the rich ambiance of haute couture - strikingly simple yet full of the most extreme detail. The collection has an almost gothic feeling - opiated, lush, and smoldering - like the dark, velvety atmosphere of a luxurious evening. There is something so seductive about orchids. In blackened nickel, they are even more sublime, like a woman wearing a black velvet gown floating through a great estate or a glassy urban high-rise. The dark atmosphere of the orchids against the hammered metal is like the afterglow of a beautiful evening.

The Butterfly Ginkgo collection celebrates the representation of flora as fauna. Michael's fascination with a particular type of ginkgo tree, the Ginkgo Biloba, or "Butterfly Ginkgo", which grows with a double leaf reminiscent of a butterfly's wings, gave rise to a fantasia image of the plant. Executed at the highest level of handcraftsmanship, each piece is rendered in solid brass with hand-etched cocoon-shaped vessels. The pieces in the collection are a tour de force of the handcrafted process, capturing the poetic spirit that is so deeply indicative of Michael's work. "The first time I saw this tree, it literally looked like it had been completely overtaken by butterflies... as if we would all take flight the moment I walked too close or made a noise. The idea that the leaves could evoke the beauty of butterflies was magical to me, like trees that can metamorphose from flora to fauna in the blink of an eye."
It’s absolutely amazing on my dining room table!. Sheryl. Falls Church, VA. Tue Jul 07 2020
