The marbled Doric pendant lights have been inspired by the forms of ancient columns and pillars from ancient Greek architecture. The designer, James Bartlett, took these traditional forms and subverted the details, so that the classical scalloped details, usually found on the outside of columns, encircle the interior of the shade. The effect is reminiscent of the crimped edge of a seashell, with a beautiful, smooth marbled exterior. The detailing can only be seen from certain angles, and the pendant looks particularly intriguing from below. What looks like marble, is in fact a special resin, which cleverly mimics this popular material. What appears to be heavy, solid stone is in fact lightweight and translucent resin. This makes the marble-look pendants a fantastic alternative for the modern interior, with a great variety of sizes and finishes. The translucent material also gives a great and surprising effect when lit up.
