Artist Commentary: This view is from Monhegan Island, Maine. I was inspired by the quiet, early morning view of the dock. Later in the day there is lots of activity so it is nice to paint early in the day.

Artist Commentary: Sometimes you have to wait for days to get a perfect reflection of a subject like this, but this evening I was lucky. The circumstances were great. Beautiful sunset over the Ashness jetty in Derwent Water, a serene landscape characteristic of the romantic features of the Lake District.

Artist Commentary: Romanticism: If there’s one landscape characteristic of Romanticism, then it’s the Lake District in England. Barren mountains, rural scenery, vast lakes, dark clouds, loneliness. Here, the woes of the world weigh heavily on the romanticist’s shoulders. In the reflection of Derwent Water I meet the unruly nature of the Lake District. Only a heavy downpour could make a wistful heart even happier.

Artist Catherine Freshley, originally from Portland, Oregon, returned home in 2020 after residing in various locations around the country for 15 years. Throughout her life, Freshley has nurtured her artistic talents and passion for painting, starting from a young age. In 2016, she made the decision to leave her full-time job at an advertising agency to dedicate more time to her burgeoning art side business. Her passion lies in painting and creating vibrant artwork that brings joy to people. Her preferred medium is acrylic on canvas. While she mainly depicts places she has visited based on photographs she has captured, she also began incorporating non-representational painting into her repertoire in 2020.
