Koi rise in low relief across the shoulder, and the fish motif reads through shifting light and shadow rather than color, a restrained take on the classic ginger jar profile. Crowned by its domed cover, it is a large jar with real presence on a console, hearth or dining buffet. The porcelain jar is hand shaped in southern China, its embossing carved into wet clay before a high fire glaze settles into every recess to deepen the tone.
