Above, a lacunar, or coffered, ceiling offers both decorative and practical use as the recessed spaces simultaneously lighten the weight of the building while also adding visual appeal. Famously noted for its use in Ancient Greek and Roman architecture, this technique was brought back during the Renaissance period. As a young girl, artist Michelle Bennett traveled and lived all around the world with her mother, father, and younger brother. With her father in the military, Michelle discovered many cultures early on in her life.
