Flowering vines and banded borders circle this Legend of Asia lidded jar, with the double happiness character painted at its centre as the traditional Chinese emblem of marriage and lasting joy. Built from high fire porcelain and hand painted in cobalt, the domed cover completes a ginger jar profile that has stayed in style for centuries. A gentle antique treatment leaves soft distress across the blue white glaze, so the temple jar reads as collected rather than newly made. Compact in scale, it is easy to place as shelf decor beside books and photographs, on a bedside table or along a kitchen counter. Its symbolism makes it a natural wedding gift or anniversary present, and it slips effortlessly into existing chinoiserie decor.
I love this jar. Legends of Asia makes beautiful jars and urns, but most are just so large. This is the perfect size to go on a shelf, table, on top of a tall piece of furniture for an eight foot ceiling, and recently, it enhanced a beautiful display of white peonies on my console table in my foyer. I have two. I will probably buy one more from Perigold! Side note: the jar in the picture is the first one I bought from another company. I like the jar I recently purchased from Perigold better because it is more like the picture...the happiness symbol is darker which creates more of a contrast in blues, which I prefer.. Donna.
