The Minos clock is the result of a joint project between raawii and students from the Swiss design school ECAL. The designer Manon Novelli translated the given theme of light and shadow as well as the medium of ceramics into a relief that is always revealed anew to the viewer when the ambient light changes. The relief itself is inspired by ancient sundials as well as patterns in nature, and the name Minos refers to the labyrinth-like surface of the clock. While the labyrinth of King Minos held a mythological being, Manon Novelli’s clock figuratively holds time. In an era of rushing, Minos’ subtle design invites to interpreting time more broadly and slowing down to appreciate it.

I got one that holds up to 75 pounds. I did have some difficulty with the hands. I have not been able to get the screw to where the hands work or hold in place. All my clocks are from this company and have been very high quality. I like but don’t love this one. It’s quite a bit bigger than I expected, but also feels more thin and flimsy than other clocks I purchased. It also doesn’t feel vintage school house as depicted. I missed the part about it being made of plastic and assumed it was metal.
