I paint intuitively in washes of watered down acrylic and watercolor and then build textural moments with acrylic mediums with brushes, fingers or dripping techniques-whatever feels appropriate moment to moment. During the process of making I strive to loose myself and experiment with the materials' innate tension-striving for the juicy oil and vinegar moments where water and suspended pigment take on an unpredictable form of their own. The "Messenger" series speaks to the artistic process of receiving partial and fleeting messages from the subconscious-as if the painting itself were a homing pigeon, a surface carrying secrets, sealed with vermillion wax. The irony, of course, is that the secrets are garbled, swirling, and illegible, as if melted in transit, flying too close to the sun or encountering a rainstorm.
