Artist Commentary: When I begin a series, as I was doing when I created "Pretty In Pink," I often work from a photo reference which I use for the first painting in the series. I then put it away and use the first painting in the series for my inspiration. I take a lot of creative license. I move trees to different spots, I work with different size canvases and change the compositions either a little or a lot. I add structures. I take structures away. I change the underpainting colors, the sky colors, the grasses. Many artists seek to replicate their photos but I've chosen to use mine as to let my imagination run wild. This is a professionally framed piece.

Elle Youngstrom was born in San Diego, CA. Self-taught and without formal training, she credits her grandfather as a great influence in her artistic career. While watercolor is her first love, she also works with diverse textures and mediums, utilizing her art as a way to express and communicate her feelings. From Sunday brunch with friends to trips to a local gallery, she finds inspiration in the everyday—often drawing from her daily hikes or her travels abroad.
