Made with hand-knotted wool and silk, this rug is an exciting new addition to Rug & Kilim's Scandinavian rug collection—a contemporary reimagining of Swedish Minimalism and vintage rugs and textiles of Rollakan and Rya traditions. The composition presents a refined chevron motif executed in sage green and varied bright, neutral tones, where hand-selected natural yarns create subtle abrash effects throughout. Admirers of the craft will particularly appreciate this rug’s look of depth and dimensionality—achieved both in the movement of the colorway and a subtle high-and-low pile married to the geometry. Keen eyes will further admire the subtle look of striae in our blend of yarns, which offers a look like that of a vintage abrash, recapturing the sense of chic one feels in a mid-century Scandinavian rug. Each of these elements are meant to honor an iconic design movement, per the soul and intention of this collection—a contribution to that movement, which forever changed minimalism, Art Deco, and mid-century modern rug design in its reach.Custom Capable:All sizes and colors available—inquire for a quote.Custom Projects: The pricing for our rugs is calculated on a per-square-foot basis and applies to the standard sizes noted. Handwoven in banana silk, Rug & Kilim presents an Swedish flat weave inspiration with a texture second to none, enjoying a geometric diamond pattern with a tiny flower bud like design at every crossing for exemplified finesse. From the latest “Watson” construction joining their award-winning Scandinavian Kilim line, the design further revels in jewel tones of green & silver-gray with white, decorating the field and border alike with subtle abrashed variations. A quiet & elegant Deco piece carrying unparalleled tactility, amply versatile to complement interiors of different styles.Custom Capable:All sizes and colors available—inquire for a quote.Further on the Design: The newer employ of handwoven silk also remarks a specific use of banana silk, a conservation-conscious element and one notably difficult to dye. In this case, the yarns were dyed in-house to ensure colorway harmony true to our quality-conscious reputation in the industry, and we're quite proud to have achieved the same weighty body and durability as our previously recognized Scandinavian Kilim with this new, iconic look and texture. The unique weaving process and equally distinct result furthers, if not exemplifies, the original spirit with which Josh founded this collection—as both a means of honoring the Scandinavian movement and contributing to it as a modern maker. The noticeable differences from a labor of love in a handwoven flat weave rug speaks to us in Scandinavian Watson with a refreshing new energy—one that captures the honorific intention of the collection, the effort of its creators, and the collaborative spirit Josh aspires to as a known creator after 40 years of industry knowledge accrued.Further on the Material: The use of an all-natural banana silk—named for its origin in recycled banana leaves—adds a conscious element of conservation that subtly attests to the original Scandinavian weaving traditions. Similar to our use of undyed natural yarns in our other Scandinavian textures, this pays tribute to the Scandinavian weaving tradition of using excess yarns and interweaving them into 'finished' pieces for an all-together new look—materials previously recycled, discarded or otherwise repurposed for something both respectful and brand new.Custom Projects: The pricing for our rugs is calculated on a per-square-foot basis and applies to the standard sizes noted.
