This antique 7x10 Heriz rug originates from Persia circa 1920-1930. Hand-knotted in wool, it features sharp tribal geometries, a rust-red medallion, and a beautifully aged polychromatic patina. On the Design:Connoisseurs will note the classic visual command of this rug, standing as a quintessential and highly honored example of Northwest weaving. It beautifully embodies the celebrated hallmark of Heriz craftsmanship: a rectilinear geometric design plan. This durable wool naturally dictates the rug's structural command, requiring the weavers to ingeniously translate fluid floral patterns into bold, blocky, and authoritative right angles. The symbolism woven into this canvas is as profound as its architecture. At the absolute core sits a monumental, multi-tiered starburst medallion. This central eight-pointed star is a powerful ancient motif representing spiritual radiance, the sun, and divine protection. Radiating outward into the sweeping, striated rust-red field, rigid vine networks and stylized palmettes serve as stylized representations of the tree of life and earthly abundance. In the outer diagonal spaces, grand, multi-stepped corner spandrels in contrasting ivory and soft sky blue sweep forcefully inward. In weaving tradition, these corner brackets symbolize the "gates of paradise" or the heavens looking down upon the earthly red center, creating a breathtaking visual and spiritual counterpoint across the floor.Framing this profound interior is a deeply saturated midnight-blue primary border, featuring the iconic Heriz turtle, also known as, “samovar” motif. This repeating sequence of geometric rosettes flanked by heavy, serrated leaves represents the eternal cycle of life, water, and cosmic continuity. Over the course of a century, the natural vegetable dyes have gently oxidized into a magnificent, time-mellowed patina. The warm terracotta reds, crisp ivories, and electric blues now possess a brilliant, unified luster. With all its presence, this carpet adds historic authenticity and an uncompromising gravity, making it a deeply honor-worthy choice for traditional libraries, rustic mountain estates, or upscale transitional entryways.Condition: This antique Heriz rug is in good condition for its age and origin.

Antique Turkish Oushak Wool on Wool 8' X 10'10" Rug

Lavender Oriental Carpets
Aubusson carpets are pile-less and the tapestry is woven from that town to the southwest of Paris, by a group of independent weavers working under Royal or State protection. The designs are strictly classical, neo-classical, or Victorian. They are virtually never “oriental”. The pattern wefts are wool with silk and/or metal thread for details in the more finely woven examples. Sizes tend toward the squarish and pieces 30’ by 30’ are not unknown. The 18th and 19th-century French clients included the nobility and Haute bourgeoisie. Aubusson carpets were also exported to England and are often to be found in country houses. Light colors are the most popular and dark-toned pieces are very rare. Besides traditional Louis furniture, try an Aubusson with the most modern décor; it might surprise you. This light, airy Aubusson small carpet has matching central and corner rose bouquets. The double elliptical leafy wreaths are spaced to give a sense of informality. The corner bosses are ae equally open. The narrow monochrome border is barely noticeable. There are no overtly classical elements and there is just enough rococo feeling to set it off from the more cluttered pseudo-Baroque of the Victorian period. The colors are all-natural and have mellowed from what originally were sharper brighter tones. Aubusson weavers, as with French rug and tapestry artists generally, work in spans of centuries, not years or decades, and they plan on what their creations will look like far into the future. This Aubusson is a study in greens, especially pistachio, restful and precise, calming and yet rigorous.

Rug & Kilim
Handwoven in wool and originating from Brussels, Belgium, this 8x10 Flemish Verdure tapestry from the late 17th Century is a rare and special new curation from Rug & Kilim—featuring a particularly popular aesthetic with lush foliage and depicting a naturalistic "garden" scene. On the Design:The tapestry is executed in a particularly celebrated Flemish style of the 17th century, characterized by its intricate detail, naturalistic rendering of flora and fauna, and use of perspective. The design centers on a formal architectural setting with classical columns and arched elements creating a stage-like perspective for the central scene. Dominant floral motifs appear as two symmetrically balanced flowering trees flanking the composition, rendered with botanical precision in a controlled palette of indigo blue, cream, and selective gold accents. The central pictorial elements include a precisely rendered heron or crane positioned prominently among human figures dressed in period attire, creating a narrative tableau typical of aristocratic decorative commissions. Classically draped figures (reminiscent of Cherubs from Renaissance art) populate the tapestry's edges, contributing to the scene's harmonious balance. The weaving technique demonstrates exceptional technical skill in the graduated color blending (hachure) used to create dimensional modeling in the vegetation and architectural elements. The weaver's skilled hand has executed a vision of aristocratic leisure here, where every delicate petal and architectural detail speaks to the period's discerning taste, making this piece a rare testament to the enduring allure of Flemish weaving tradition. Condition: This Antique Flemish tapestry further enjoys good condition for its age and origin—intended for use in wall-hanging projects only.

Rug & Kilim
Originating from Turkey between 1880-1890, this antique Sparta rug enjoys a lightly distressed, hand-knotted wool pile throughout an all-over geometric-floral field design. Framed by a unique series of non-mirrored, wrapping brown flower scrolls and an ornate royal blue middle border with highly stylized imagery, the field design uniquely departs from the gentle, curvilinear patterns of the frame for a more finely woven geometric series of blue and beige lotus palmettes (symbolizing rebirth) within a medallion; further distinguished by deep blue branches and mirrored floral emblems against an abrash copper brown background.

Hand-embroidered in wool circa 1880, this 8x10 antique English needlepoint carpet joins Rug & Kilim’s European collection. It features a striking Chinese dragon motif amid stylized waves, reflecting a rare decorative interpretation. On the Design:This antique English needlepoint carpet reflects the nineteenth century fascination with Chinoiserie, when European designers increasingly looked to East Asian art and symbolism for inspiration. At the center of the design, a sinuous Chinese dragon emerges amidst a rhythmic field of stylized waves, creating a striking pictorial design that balances movement with symmetry. Revered throughout Chinese culture as a symbol of power, prosperity, and good fortune, the dragon is rendered with remarkable elegance, its elongated form unfolding naturally across the expansive field. The surrounding wave motifs further reinforce the Eastern influence, recalling traditional Chinese decorative arts and maritime imagery.Particularly compelling is the carpet's restrained palette of layered blue tones, ivory accents, and subtle touches of warm color that animate the dragon's features. The rhythmic repetition of wave forms creates extraordinary visual depth, lending the field a sense of motion while preserving the clarity of the central motif. Framing the design is a geometric border whose angular drawing provides an effective contrast to the fluidity of the waves. The result is a highly unusual needlepoint carpet that exemplifies the creative dialogue between European craftsmanship and Asian-inspired design during the late nineteenth century.ConditionThis antique English needlepoint carpet enjoys good condition for its age and origin.

Rug & Kilim
Made with hand-knotted wool circa 1890-1900, this 8x11 antique rug is an extremely rare and exciting new addition of the provenance to Rug & Kilim’s curations of this celebrated weaving tradition. On the Design: This antique rug presents a sublime devotional architecture through its classical mihrab design that achieves extraordinary botanical sophistication within a sacred geometric design. The prayer niche employs traditional pointed arch construction rendered in luminous coral against deep burgundy spandrels, creating a dramatic spatial hierarchy that guides contemplative focus toward the spiritual center. The spandrel zones employ dense geometric tapestries featuring angular palmettes and stylized florals arranged in sophisticated all-over patterns that provide rich textural contrast to the mihrab's naturalistic vocabulary. In contemporary applications, this rug provides a sophisticated foundation for spaces celebrating cultural heritage while its coral and burgundy palette anchors color schemes with museum-quality authority.
