This vintage transitional Kars Hand-knotted wool rug features a medallion style field design, sporting a wide variety of symbols including double rams horns signifying strength and masculinity, mirrored hooks for protection against the evil eye, subtle earring portrayals for matrimony, buka fetters for fertility, and many allusions to scorpions in both the field and wrapping borders to consolidate the theme of warding which dominates this piece. Complementary to this unique wealth of symbolism is the particularly balanced hues of beige and eggplant brown, equally prominent throughout the field as they are in both the mirrored Agra and individualistic borders framing this portrait.
