This magnificent rug from rug & Kilim’s Moroccan rug collection is a graphic work of art, hand-knotted entirely in fine wool. The design features a deep espresso brown field broken by bands of creamy ivory that reveal stylized trees and abstract animal figures. On the Design: This rug is a captivating visual experience, an abstract narrative woven with tribal geometry and symbolic motifs that transforms the floor plane into a powerful, graphic landscape. Crafted from fine hand-knotted wool, the design leverages distinct horizontal zones and stark graphic contrast to achieve its profound, earthen beauty. The pattern is a masterful study in abstraction and storytelling, appearing as a highly stylized aerial view of a nomadic scene or a desert horizon. The expansive central field is defined by a dense, monochromatic wash of deep espresso brown and chocolate. This rich expanse is broken by horizontal bands of creamy ivory, which feature symbolic elements like stylized trees/branches, and a row of small, abstracted animals in a rare hint of pale blue and white. The top and bottom are framed by abstract bands of broken texture, resembling distressed fences, gates, or ancient markings. Rendered in a sophisticated, highly graphic palette, the rug's drama is achieved purely through the stark opposition of the deep brown field against the luminous cream patterns. The tactile quality of the wool gives the piece a comforting weight and durability. It is a powerful statement of modern artistry, combining the primal rhythm of tribal textiles with a bold, contemporary graphic clarity, creating a mesmerizing and sophisticated foundation. Hand-knotted in a special blend of Ghazni wool, this 3x5 rug from the custom-classics Burano Collection by Rug & Kilim is inspired by antique Caucasian rug designs of the late 19th century. On the Design:Admirers of the craft may note the large-scale medallions in the field are known as Lesghi stars—named for the Lesghian tribes of the northeast Caucasus, though the motif has been seen as early in history as ancient Greece. A play of warm, bright tones of red, gold, and cream underscore these and the many other geometric patterns at play, with navy blue accents in kind. The use of Ghazni wool further lends a particularly soft, comfortable texture and tactile beauty to the design. It’s one of many intentional, personal contributions to a traditional aesthetic for a more contemporary level of comfort, and one of the many beauties that makes this collection a sophisticated, smart new language in design...Custom Capable:All sizes and colors available—inquire for a quote.Custom Projects: The pricing for our rugs is calculated on a per-square-foot basis and applies to the standard sizes noted. Made with hand-knotted wool, this beautiful rug is an exciting new addition to Rug & Kilim’s custom-classics Burano Collection, inspired by the most iconic tribal rug styles in history. This piece is a bold, contemporary reimagining of the elegant, large-scale beauty of traditional Oushak rugs. On the Design: In this piece, beige, cream, and orange tones underscore bold, large-scale floral patterns in the field and border alike—a rich, warm palette that recaptures the elegant, feminine look of an Oushak in a fresh new fashion. The design favors spaciousness, allowing the creamy field to breathe around the central medallion and oversized floral sprays, which bloom in soft terracotta and beige-brown. Some of the floral patterns in particular are inspired by the "crab" palmette style, known to grace a few different provenances but particularly whimsical to see in the Oushak style, as the Oushaks were often an eclectic combination of regal-yet-informal design elements that made them so unique. The weaving technique further complements the old-world look of the pattern, while it still enjoys a high-quality, luxury construction, both durable and comfortable in any space. These and many other beauties mark a thoughtful and inventive contribution to the rustic, old-world charm and transitional whimsy of Oushak rugs that distinguishes them from other traditional Oriental rug provenances. This piece is an intentional contribution to a classic style for a more contemporary level of comfort, and one of the many beauties that makes this collection a sophisticated, smart new language in design. This Collection is based on antique Oriental rug designs but uses a contemporary color palette. The main characteristic of these rugs is the noticeable abrash (color change), a new technique of weaving between two color hues, which imparts an antique look. Hand-knotted in China with a very high knot count and using only the finest wools, the result is the character of an heirloom rug with the resilience of a new one. With a very high knot count of approximately 240 knots per square inch, and using only the finest wools from New Zealand and Mongolia, the result is the character of an heirloom rug with the resilience of a new one.
It is a well-made rug, but the color was more brown and beige than the various "rust" shades I saw on the website. Still, it is a nice rug that fits well in our foyer.. Deborah. Vienna, VA. Thu Feb 08 2024

This vintage runner is an exciting new addition to Rug & Kilim’s Mid-Century Pasha Collection. This line is a commemoration, with rare curations we believe to hail from multidisciplinary Turkish designer Zeki Müren. Hand-knotted in wool circa 1960-1970, this rug marks one of Müren’s mid-century interpretations of Art Deco rug styles. Its field is beige with cream notes, and its geometric patterns enjoy a range of green, gold, and black hues. Connoisseurs will admire Müren’s talent for recapturing this iconic style in his own way—particularly with a sense of attitude and presence. Further on the Condition: This mid-century Art Deco runner is in good condition with full pile—a rare find among Müren’s works curated today.

A Gabbeh is a handmade Persian rug which were traditionally woven by Qashqai and Luri weavers in persia. These rugs are and were simple, whimsical or modern in design, often using geometric and stylized human, animal and plant forms. The word Gabbeh translates closely to unfinished or unclipped. Originally these rugs were woven for the weavers use with the pile left much longer than normal rugs. They were sometimes used as sleeping rugs. Most of the recent Gabbehs are filled with color with the weavers creativity being given free reign. There is nothing subtle or understated about them. The beauty of these rugs is their unmistakable uniqueness. I had one Gabbeh with a herd of camels, another with only a few simple trees. I remember one in particular that had wine glasses positioned right next to the humans on the rug! Some Gabbehs will have small animal figures whimsically placed throughout the field. You may see a simple rendition of the Tree of Life design, camels crossing the desert, a stylized sunset or the colors of the ocean with each rug having it's own individual qualities. A few of the more daring pieces have no design at all with only wool quality and variegation of color dictating the design elements. One of the most important factors influencing the beauty of any rug are the colors. Some of the most magnificent color creations have been and are being achieved on a regular basis in the contemporary production of Persian Gabbehs. Jewel tones abound and old school dyeing techniques have been given new life. With their simple design elements, they are perfectly suited for modern interiors. Additionally, they can be easily incorporated into most eclectic decorating schemes and work well with traditional Persian tribal rugs, if the colors are in agreement. This is not a rug recommended for a formal room. If the moods and colors are in harmony and it pleases you, that is the bottom line. Gabbeh rugs are woven in villages of settled tribal groups, many of them descendants of Turkic speaking peoples. The most prolific producers of Gabbeh are the Qashqai, famous for their love of color. The best Gabbehs, woven with lustrous hand-spun Persian wool come from the areas near the Zagros Mountains in Southern persia. The creation of these rugs are most often done in the home, each one a unique and splendid presentation of the weavers' art.

That same beast is surrounded by ruyi clouds, lotus floral motifs and other traditional patterns. The scene looks to depict a Kirin surrounded by a storm, befitting of both its choice of dark blues beside the gold tones as well as the symbolism of Kirins throughout history as agents of divine change. Made with hand-knotted wool and originating from Morocco, this 3x4 Moroccan rug by Rug & Kilim represents an exciting new line of contemporary tribal rugs.
