Hand-knotted in lush, high-pile wool in Sweden circa 1960-1970, this 2x4 vintage Swedish Rya rug is a bold new addition to Rug & Kilim’s curation of iconic, collectible mid-century Scandinavian rugs of this provenance. On the Design:This vintage Swedish Rya rug features a softly abstract composition articulated through broad vertical banding and subtle tonal shifts. The design reads as atmospheric rather than geometric, with organic transitions that allow the high pile to blur edges and create depth. The interplay of directional striations and layered hues gives the surface a dynamic, almost painterly movement while maintaining compositional restraint.Rooted in mid-century Scandinavian textile traditions, the piece exemplifies the period’s exploration of color-field abstraction interpreted through tactile, hand-knotted wool. Its plush construction enhances both visual dimension and material presence, balancing modernist simplicity with warmth.Condition: This vintage Swedish rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.
