Hand-knotted in wool circa 1990, this 4x4 Shirvan square rug carries forward the geometric clarity and precision of Caucasian weaving traditions in a versatile, small format. Admirers of Caucasian rugs may appreciate the disciplined lattice structure that defines this Shirvan piece. The field is composed of repeating lozenges enclosing stylized star-flower motifs, rendered in a distinctly angular manner that reflects the region's geometric approach to floral design. An ivory ground offers a clear backdrop to tones of sky blue, brick red, and soft brown, allowing each motif to read distinctly within the composition. The repetition establishes a steady rhythm, while minor variations in detailing lend a subtle sense of movement. The borders employ multiple guard bands and a principal band with stepped geometric and rosette elements, reinforcing the structure of the field. The overall composition favors clarity and balance, with an emphasis on precision over density. This Vintage Shirvan rug is in good condition for its age and origin.
