Hailing from India between 1890-1900, this hypnotic antique Agra rug is hand-knotted in high-quality wool with a hypnotic departure from traditional designs in its field. Emboldened by a partisan pairing of beige and red colorways against a black background, the mesmeric geometric-floral repetition in the field is distinguished among the large population of Agra antiques favoring regality and medallions over this tribal interpretation of elegance, further complemented by the wrapping series of lotus rebirth symbols in the intricate border.
