Hand-knotted in lush, high-pile wool in Sweden circa 1960-1970, this 3x5 vintage Swedish Rya rug is a bold new addition to Rug & Kilim’s curation of iconic, collectible mid-century Scandinavian rugs of this provenance. On the Design:This Vintage Swedish Rya rug explores an expressive abstract composition through a dense, high-pile construction that softens the geometry into a painterly field. Vertical striations and intersecting linear elements create a sense of movement and depth, while the shifting pile direction lends a tactile, almost sculptural surface. The composition balances structure and spontaneity, an approach characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian textile art, where bold form is tempered by an organic, handwoven presence. In this way, the piece reflects the period’s interest in modernist abstraction while remaining grounded in the warmth and materiality of traditional Rya weaving.Condition:This vintage Swedish rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.
