Made with hand-knotted wool, this 3x4 contemporary rug represents the Chinese Art Deco rug collection by Rug & Kilim—inspired from the 1920s Chinoiserie style period pieces of the most elegant sensibility. On the Design: This striking Art Deco Chinese rug exemplifies the sophisticated fusion of Eastern botanicals with modernist geometry that distinguished Shanghai's premier workshops during the early 20th century. The design presents an asymmetrical arrangement of stylized peonies and blossoms against a vibrant magenta field—a bold color choice that reflects Art Deco's embrace of dramatic chromatic statements. The design demonstrates remarkable modernity through its strategic placement of floral elements creating dynamic movement across the field. Particularly noteworthy is the geometric key pattern rendered in brown tones that creates architectural framing along the perimeter—a quintessential Art Deco motif that references classical Greek design while maintaining harmony with the Chinese floral elements. The colorway exhibits sophisticated contrast through its foundation of rich magenta, animated by floral elements in ivory, cerulean blue, and jade green.
