This vintage rug depicts an uncommon abundance of culturally significant symbols. Flat-woven in high-quality fabric, each alternating row features a completely individualistic array of stars - Turkish symbols of happiness and good fortune. The geometric symbols within the alternating rows with outlines strongly resemble combs–symbols of fertility and protection–in similar but uniform hues against backgrounds. The sheer variation of non-formulaic colorways, complemented by the abundance of these respective symbols (known for a more particular, balanced employment in other pieces), both contribute to the individuality and emphasis on fortune permeating this piece.
