Hand-knotted originating from India between 1880-1890, this antique Amritsar wool rug enjoys a distinguished marriage of classic oriental elements with European influences, notable in both the grand soaring floral patterns (with highlights of English and French inspiration) and the traditional beige-brown colorway; a sought-after staple of many Amritsar pieces, though the remarkably subtle blue background of this rug’s field design offers a distinct rarity among this family of versatile antiques, appealing to a variety of interiors.
