Originating from France in the 1800s, this antique Savonniere rug fragment was hand knotted with wool pile hailing from one of the most widely regarded European rug manufacturers for multiple centuries, often paralleling the most treasured Aubusson pieces of each era. In that, the medallion-style field design in this piece draws a unique influence on the neoclassical brown, beige, and pink colourways of select Aubusson masterpieces, given character by the lightest shade of the multi tonal blue hues throughout the rest of the grand portrait’s golden yellow and cream colourways.
