Made with hand-knotted natural silk, this 3x9 runner rug is a sophisticated addition to Rug & Kilim’s Block Print collection—an innovative line celebrating the artisanal charm of block printing reimagined in contemporary hand-knotted form. This piece functions as a lush, textural landscape that honors classical textile motifs through a bold, contemporary lens. On the Design: There is a profound, quiet romance to a rug that looks as though it has been gently faded by time. This mesmerizing contemporary runner draws its inspiration from the ancient, hand-stamped textiles of India, translating their soulful imperfections into a masterpiece of today’s textile design. The canvas is defined by rhythmic horizontal bands containing a repeating, stylized geometric lattice; a crisp, contemporary interpretation of classical floral trellises and architectural fretwork. What makes this piece truly exceptional is its masterfully muted, erased finish. The earthy palette of warm taupe, soft beige, and light gray appears wonderfully weathered and atmospheric, capturing a sense of lived-in elegance and wabi-sabi charm. This visual patina is brilliantly contrasted by the sheer luxury of its construction. Hand-knotted entirely in natural silk, the pile features a dramatic high-low carving. The raised lattice motifs catch the ambient light, offering a subtle, pearlescent shimmer that dances against the recessed, tone-on-tone foundation. Principal Josh Nazmiyal envisions this Block Print collection as a bold new frontier in transitional design—a seamless marriage between the rustic, tactile warmth of historic textiles and the unparalleled sophistication of carved silk. It is an incredibly chic, tactile anchor, perfectly scaled to bring a whisper of worldly patina and architectural grace to long hallways, bespoke entryways, or minimalist corridors.
