This antique 4x7 Gabbeh rug is the latest grand entry to Rug & Kilim’s curation of iconic tribal pieces. Hand-knotted in wool circa 1910-1920.On the Design: Rooted in the time-honored aesthetics of tribal weaving, this striking rug draws from the soulful artistry of Gabbeh tradition. The central ivory field establishes a prayer niche format, punctuated by a central diamond medallion rendered in deep madder red with internal geometric subdivision. The medallion's cruciform extensions create vertical emphasis, enhanced by flanking zoomorphic motifs interpreted as stylized birds or protective spirits, fundamental elements in Luri cosmological symbolism. Border design employs reciprocal sawtooth patterning with individual teeth measuring precise angular increments. The guard borders feature alternating color blocks that create optical vibration against the primary terracotta ground. The overall palette restriction to three primary tones—ivory, terracotta, and deep madder—creates chromatic unity while allowing subtle tonal variations within each color family to provide visual complexity.Condition: This Antique Gabbeh tribal rug enjoys good condition for its age and origin.
