This rare 19th-century antique Yarkand-Khotan rug from East Turkestan is a masterpiece of Central Asian textile art. Featuring a luminous gold background, this hand-knotted wool rug showcases the iconic pomegranate design, a symbol of fertility and abundance. The intricate pattern is rendered as a Tree of Life with branching stalks and jewel-like fruit, reflecting a cultural synthesis of Persian and Chinese influences. Its vibrant gold field was achieved using local vegetal dyes, creating a sun-drenched hue that complements the soft, lustrous wool. This room-sized rectangular rug is a significant luxury, as most pieces from this region were produced in smaller formats. With a 0.5-inch pile height and geometric fretwork-style borders, this antique carpet captures the sophisticated Silk Road aesthetic, making it a prestigious addition to any formal reception hall or residence.
