A one-of-a-kind contemporary handwoven wool needlepoint rug, The piece carries a beige and ivory color register in the formal needlepoint vocabulary. Needlepoint rugs are made by stitching wool yarn through an open-weave canvas backing, producing a flat, embroidery-like surface - very different from the looped pile of knotted carpets. The technique has roots in formal European needlepoint traditions stretching back centuries; contemporary production carries the technique forward with updated color palettes and proportions. Hand-woven wool. Authentic one-of-a-kind contemporary piece.
