I have had five Hinkley Troyer path lights installed at my home for about three years.
I've not been very satisfied with them. I initially wanted to order them in a dark green color, only to find that Hinkley does not offer custom finishes. This is odd, because most other landscape lighting companies offer their fixtures in custom colors. I had to settle for oil rubbed bronze. Three years later, and I see they still only offer bronze and black finishes.
I can live with not having the color I wanted. However, functionally, these aren't great path lights to position near steps or other path hazards. The way the bulb is positioned in the frosted glass dome, most of the light shines out in a primarily decorative way, rather than down to illuminate the path. This was not evident until they were installed. I could probably live with that, too. But the frosted glass portion of the fixture is only secured to the socket by less than a quarter turn. As a result, the glass domes are extremely prone to falling out and shattering. Each year, I have had to replace at least two of them. I am uncertain if they just eventually work their way loose on windy days, or if my landscaper's use of leaf blowers exacerbates the problem. But I am growing very tired of having to replace the frosted glass domes. These should be redesigned to either lock securely in place, or be made of more durable material than the rather thin glass currently used. Frankly, I am leaning towards just replacing these Troyer path lights with a better product, because they continue to cause aggravation.
