Many of the lighting pieces in the Sherman House were made of wood and, consequently, employ components that are larger in diameter. These pieces mimic the texture created by thicker wood components even though they are done in brass.
Chiaroscuro is inspired by strong light and shadows. The concept was to create this effect, within one light fitting. The light from within highlights the difference between the ring sizes and adds a dramatic sculptural effect to the light. It is equally beautiful both on and off.
