These are a departure from more safe designs - a torch sconce or a swoop arm with a linen shade, for instance. The gold ones have a lot of presence and elegance. I placed a pair of these within the full length niches adjacent to the mirror over an antique mantle and am very happy with the look. They are on a dimmer which gives the lovely effect of bringing them to life.

Love these and they add so much the my bathroom where I have them.
