Quality of materials, simplicity of form, and intent of design result in worthwhile work. Here, we layer a disc-shaped slab of alabaster, hewn from Spanish quarries, over an LED light source. Alabaster is such an excellent diffuser of light, it has been used for windows in places of high seriousness since antiquity. The combination of cutting-edge lighting technology and archaic materials makes for a compelling light fixture.
