The lamp is a nice weight and has a very nice brass finish with a nice white torchiere glass shade. I don't think of the finish as uneven or antique like. The floor dimmer switch works well. I put the dimmer slide behind a pillow on my sofa so it is readily accessible when I'm sitting down.
