This is a great little gadget that I use whenever I am spreading peanut butter or other butters/sauces on bread. Sure, you could use a butter knife to do this. Heck, that's why we call it a butter knife. But this tool does add a few nice features. The wide blade makes spreading your product easier and gives you a little more surface area to hold your spreadable goodness. One edge is also serrated. which allows you to cut the sandwich. There is one thing to be aware of. The Product Highlights on the Wusthof website mentions that this tool has an "incredibly sharp and easily maintained laser cut blade." We're talking a regular serrated edge. Its fine for cutting sandwiches, but to be honest, it is probably the least sharp Wusthof I have ever bought. Its just the nature of the beast. Many people won't sharpen a serrated blade, and it can not be sharpened using traditional sharpening methods on a wet stone. But it is adequately sharp for doing the things that it was designed to do. While I normally use forged knives in the kitchen, this is one design that lends itself well to a stamped blade since it probably won't be a heavy use knife for most people.

This utensil is fantastic for spreading mayo, mustard and basically anything that spreads. I should have bought this years ago.
