I've been looking for a new, easier to clean cherry pitter to replace a novelty one I got years ago. This one is a great replacement. It's so easy to use, a breeze to clean. So far I've only had 1 cherry that I struggled to fit into the pitter. I wish I'd found this sooner, I wasted too much time fighting with my last one.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Unfortunately I have 3 of these OXO Cherry & Olive Pitter's. All 3 have the same problem: The Splatter Shield needs to be redesigned so that it stays fastened when using the tool. Every time you use the item to remove a Pit the Splatter Shield flys off with the pit - TOTALLY USELESS and Unacceptable! The Reason that I have 3 of these tools is I was hoping that I had just acquired a Bad Copy with the first two Pitters but the 3rd Pitter proved that it was a Poor Design & Manufacturing Defect. They really should be pulled off the market until designed properly.

I have owned an Oxo cherry pitter for quite a few years. After being used and washed hundreds of times, the plastic housing of my older one finally cracked. Willing to replace my very reliable tool with a new one, I was so dismayed with the new product I received. I actually called in a warranty claim, because I assumed I had received a defective one, but the new one that was sent was also the same way. The plastic housing is not nearly as sturdy as it used to be. The clear splatter shield of the new one also wiggles lose and falls off after nearly every cherry, which is something that never happened with my older one. Most importantly for me, they have changed the design of the hinge pin, which is not disclosed in the description or pictures of the product on this website. The hinge pin is now only smooth on one side, and if you happen to be a left-handed user like me, the new rough exposed metal that is on the other side of the hinge will rub and terribly irritate the palm of your hand. It is absolutely unusable for me. I assume the design was cheapened to make it less expensive to produce, but I cannot recommend this product in any way. I have many well-performing Oxo products in my home, and I hope that I don't encounter this erosion of quality as I may need to replace other things in the future.
