I love this ice maker/ dispenser! It works as it should. The side tank works good. I have had it a couple of months. It has started making some noise. It’s not all the time though. I would definitely recommend it!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Definitely would NOT recommend this product. Total waste of money. Even when the ice bin says full, we're lucky to get a single glass of ice out of it. If you're in the market for an ice maker, skip this one and choose a model that lets you actually see how much ice is in the bin.

Worst appliance ever, has never worked correctly straight out of the box, defrosts three to four times a day which makes it unusable, needs cleaning more than it should, and does not make enough ice for more than two people at a time. Then it goes and gets discontinued. What am i supposed to do now, this unit has sat on my counter for almost a year and unable to use it, my wife loves nugget ice but just cut it off due to the hassle of the unit, GE are you gong to do right by your product or just say tough

I was one of the early adopters of this new model released by GE. I have had several of the older models and love the ice that they made. When I saw this new model released, I gave my functioning older model GE Opal icemaker to my friend and went out and purchased this new one. It’s been nothing but a disappointment. it requires cleaning almost weekly, to the point that we had to institute a rotation in my household, for all those who use the ice from this icemaker, to take their turn with the cleaning process. The cleaning process is somewhat difficult, because you need to relocate the unit to a sink, be able to properly drain it . It didn’t take long for everybody in my household to decide using the icemaker was not worth the effort of cleaning, and everybody quit using this icemaker. My nearly new icemaker, has now sat on my countertop for almost a year, unplugged and unused, due to the issue with cleaning. I finally decided it was time to try it again, using distilled water, in an attempt to avoid the frequent cleanings. I went online and started reading all the other reviews, and realized that this is a very serious issue and that GE has discontinued making this brand new product. Also, several reviews have mentioned that the storage bin is too small. I couldn’t agree more with that statement, since it’s usually only good for one, possibly two people, to get ice, before it needs to refill the storage bin and make more ice. Therefore, I have two questions I would like answered from GE. 1. Why exactly did GE decide to quit making this new model? 2. What are the current owners of this discontinued model supposed to do? Since the Icemaker can no longer be replaced? Even repairs in the future will no longer be possible for this discontinued model. I am requesting a full refund, so that I can go back to the older models of GE Opal Icemakers.
