Check if your home has installed ductwork. If it does, or you plan on getting it installed, you should look for a ducted (vented) or convertible range hood. If your home does not have installed ductwork, you should choose a ductless (non-vented) or convertible range hood.
First, measure the width of your cooking surface from one side of the cooktop to the other. Next, measure the width of the area between cabinets where your range hood will live (if applicable). Then, measure the space between the cooking surface and cabinets or ceiling above. There should be anywhere from 24 to 36 inches between the bottom of the range hood and the cooktop surface. Finally, measure the depth from front to back of the cooking surface.
