Expensive, but what an amazing natural product! Great polished finish. Better than we expected! They were well wrapped, but the crates were not as strong as they should be for the weight of the product. This stool is cut from a responsibly harvested chamcha tree trunk. Chamcha is an acacia species native to Thailand. We love the visible wood grains, even after we treat them to create this stone-like patina. The freeform line of the trunk remains intact, preserving the natural integrity of this piece. A little background history: Originally designed in the 1940s for the Gino of Capri restaurant, lovingly known as "Ginos" by New Yorkers, Scalamandre restored the Zebras wallcovering in the upper east side institution in the 1970s after it was destroyed in a fire. Flora Scalamandre, wife of Franco, free-handed the signature motif that would come to be known as the iconic Scalamandre zebras. The pattern is celebrated the world over in design and in the movies. It was featured in the "Royal Tenenbaums" and "Mighty Aphrodite". The pattern design has grown in color offerings and mediums.
