In every village in India and along the roadside in between them, are white ceramic pots like these holding clean water for public drinking. Most are much larger than the ones we have commissioned for Studio A Home. We have always been attracted to the light-colored ceramic which seems to be used only for the drinking pots throughout the country.

Our Crackled Footed ceramics are crafted using an ancient Japanese form of firing called "Raku." Raku ware is characterized by beautifully crackled or metallic glazed surfaces as well as blackened unglazed surfaces, both of which are the result of the unique low-firing technique. New west for the studio home. The Celebration collection is handcrafted earthenware baked in a low heat kiln with hand-painted designs inspired by African tribal dress.
A combination of shapes and sizes were utilized to create these dramatic statement pieces of slip molded Portuguese ceramic. Stria horizontal texture was intentionally hand-carved into the molds creating these unique, organic shapes.
A highly reactive Raku-like glaze on porcelain. The intense reaction the glaze produces in the kiln creates random crystalline metallic areas on the bronze matte finish.

The Digit Vases and Bowl are exquisite examples of handcrafted Portuguese ceramics, created using an ancient Japanese firing method known as Raku. The journey begins with skilled artisans hand-forming the clay into the desired shapes for the vases and bowl. The formed clay pieces are fired in a kiln at relatively low temperatures. When the ceramics reach the optimal temperature in the kiln, they are quickly removed while still glowing hot. These red-hot pieces are then placed into a container filled with combustible materials like sawdust, leaves, or paper. This ignition creates a reduced atmosphere within the container. As a result of the rapid cooling and reduction process, the glazes on the ceramics begin to crack and form intricate and often unpredictable patterns on the surface. This crackling effect is one of the hallmark features of the Raku firing process.
