The Milanese Armor that inspired our Milan Diamond Grasscloth and Appliqué Tape is a unique example of Italian armor made with German influences. Created around 1510, this rare example with fluted surfaces in German fashion is etched with Christian symbolism and references to the Bible, including images of the Virgin and Child and saints Paul and George as well as Latin inscriptions. The armor is adorned with richly gilt ornamentation that we’ve emulated in our products, which will add charm to any room they’re featured in. Based on an early 18th-century French document, Chinoise Exotique is a grand design depicting Chinese figures hunting exotic Indian animals. This pattern is a classic example of the kinds of chinoiserie patterns developed for export to the European market in the early 1700s. These fabrics became so popular that France passed a law banning them from sale out of fear that they would collapse the French textile market.

Palampores, or "Tree of Life" patterns, have their origins in India, where the exotic designs were hand painted and mordant dyed, and exported to Europe and England for use as elaborate bed hangings and curtains. Pondicherry, now offered as a wallcovering, the colorways remain true to their 90's origins, highlighting the iconic filigree pattern amidst the exotic tree of life motif. We've used the original screens and given it an update with fresh new colorations against crisp white grounds. The charming scenic design is adapted from antique Chinese hand painted scenic wall panels, reinterpreted in a simple and graphic style.

Olof is a braided branch of bowing Rudbeckior that sets a friendly atmosphere in the room. The flower was cultivated as early as the 17th century by the botanist Olof Rudbeck (the elderly), which also got to name both the flower and our pattern.
