This graceful chinoiserie print was discovered in a small room in the Noble Hardee Mansion in Savannah, Georgia, which has been described as “the last unrestored grand mansion in Savannah”. The house dates back to 1860, and the aged hand-printed paper is thought to have been installed by a decorator who owned the house in the 1960s or 1970s. The paper has widely been attributed to Scalamandré, and it became a mission of ours to bring it back to life, as wallcovering with a matching cotton chintz fabric. It was photographed in sections on-site, redrawn line for line, and matched for its original color of white and grey leaves against an espresso ground. The grandly scaled, nearly four-foot repeat and classic bamboo foliage speak to its adaptation from antique hand-painted Chinese silk wall panels, interpreted in a loose brushstroke style that is typical of more contemporary handprints. New color additions such as Jade and Ciel add a fresh look to this timeless design. Now printed on a 54" nonwoven ground, this mural-like paper features crisp printing, deeply saturated color, and easily paste–wall installation.

This large pillow is absolutely gorgeous - the print is just beautiful and the colors are rich and vibrant. I knew it would be perfect in our living room, but hesitated for weeks before ordering because of the price, which is pretty hefty for a pillow with no embroidery, texture, fancy edging, etc. Now that I have lived with the one pillow for a couple of days, however, I can't stop looking at it and so am biting the bullet and ordering a second one. Originally designed in 1945 for Gino of Capri restaurant, affectionately known as “Gino’s” by New Yorkers, Scalamandré restored the Zebras wallcovering at this iconic Upper East Side establishment in 1973 after the walls were damaged by fire. Flora Scalamandré, wife of Franco Scalamandré, skillfully hand-drew the signature motif, which would later become the renowned Scalamandré Zebras design. This lively pattern depicts two Zebras prancing around politely placed arrows set against a lively colored ground. The playful and captivating design instantly captivated audiences, quickly joining the product line and ultimately achieving fame through appearances in notable films such as Wes Anderson’s “The Royal Tenenbaums”.

Based on an early 18th-century French document, Chinoise Exotique is a grand design depicting Chinese figures hunting exotic Indian animals. This pattern is a classic example of the kinds of chinoiserie patterns developed for export to the European market in the early 1700s. These fabrics became so popular that France passed a law banning them from sale out of fear that they would collapse the French textile market.

The pattern Agate is inspired by the earth's rock formations. With a daughter who is an Earth scientist, I'm learning about geology... I've become focused on the Earth and what pressure and time have created within it. Agate is interesting in its organic swirling beauty. I like to change the colorations of nature to combinations that might not be possible but make me swoon.

Painted with watercolor wildflowers against a ground of color, the much-loved Artemis motif returns to its roots in nature.
