I just received my Bear Family on Log Sculpture, early this afternoon, delivered by FEDEX ground delivery service. The sculpture was very well packaged and was delivered quite quickly. I bought the sculpture because it reminded me of a little bear cub that was a little Denis the Menace, years ago when I was working at Jonas Campground in Jasper National Park. His mom was trying to teach her cubs how to get across the creek on a log. The little female cub followed her mom's instructions and went across the log. The little male cub went across the log with mom right behind him. Then the got to the other side, mom got off the log and the little guy scooted back across the log to the other side of the creek. Mom got back on the log, when back across to the other side to retrieve her wayward cub. The creek was flowing quite strong and the little male cub was arguing with his mom and the argument was quite loud. It reminded me of when a child first learned the word "NO" and it sounded just like he was saying "NO" and throwing a little temper tantrum. Well, his mom had finally had enough of that and she let a big roar out of her and I think that the little guy realized that he had pushed his luck just a little to far and ran back across to the far end of the log followed by Mom. He got to the other side and mom got off the log first but, again, the little guy stayed on top the log. Now, there were 3 spruce saplings on that end of the log and, once again, the little guy started arguing with his mom. Next thing I saw were those 3 saplings just shaking like crazy. Mom had had just about enough of her cub arguing with her and she let out one more loud and unmistakable roar and this time that little cub was off that log and ran over to where his little sister was waiting for them. Mom caught up to her cubs and they disappeared into the bush. Throughout the summer we would see mom and her cubs and that little guy was forever pushing the limits and getting into all kinds of trouble. I think back to that summer and the little maverick cub and wonder if that little guy grew up and what his life was like. I absolutely love my Great Horned Owl statue! I mounted it on a stump and put it in my hosta garden and it looks stunning! A word to the wise: I live in a woodland area and originally had my owl displayed toward the back of the lot, against a backdrop of tree trunks and other wood. Because of his color, which is a brown that matches the tree trunks almost entirely, he blended into the background and was hard to see. I moved it up closer and put it in front of a greener background, and now it pops! He has lots of detail and is very realistic looking. Absolutely Stunning! And worth the effort. This large and heavy piece arrived in packaging that ensured its protection 100 percent, but was a challenge to unpack. Encased in an expandable styrofoam, it was difficult to discern how to unpack it or which way was up. No instructions were provided on how to access it. I literally had to claw through the material and dig carefully, much like an archeologist would. Once I was able to figure out how it was situated in the material, I was able to remove it. All of this effort left quite the mess. This artwork is gorgeous. Upon unboxing I discovered it was covered in a black soot-like substance, and required washing. I chose this piece for a dramatic Halloween table display and it worked beautifully. After washing, I put felt on the bottom and placed it on a black cloth so not to damage my table or linens.
