While the high firing temperature and quality of their material containers result in a durable and frost-resistant product, they still recommend that they are stored in a frost-free covered area in winter. If left outside, water may accumulate in the container and freeze, causing the planter to crack and break. Planters that must be left outside should be covered to prevent water, snow, and ice from accumulating inside the planter.

Campania’s glazed and terra cotta pottery is high fired at 990 (terra cotta) to 1000 (glazed) degrees centigrade to maximize frost resistance and durability. Glazed and terra cotta Campania products are made by hand with a dense clay specially suited for outdoor use. Hand made glazed and terra cotta containers are less absorbent than machine made, and therefore less vulnerable to winter damage.

I would GLADLY give this gorgeous floor vase 5 stars if it weren't for the nightmare we just went through unpacking it!!!! If you're considering purchasing this vase, I strongly recommend that you read my full reviews so you can be prepared for the work ahead and be sure you have a large enough space that you don't mind getting very messy to unwrap and unpack. It was set up for door front delivery, and we were prepared to bring it in and unpack it ourselves. But honestly, Wayfair should insist that this be set up for full unpacking and trash haul away. The huge box was secured and wrapped on a pallet, and it was filled with hay to the top of the box. I suppose it had been sitting outside in the rain for sometime because the cardboard, packing, and hay were damp and musty. After removing the hay and making a MASSIVE mess in our garage, we were able to get the piece out and drag it on a tarp into the house. Now for the good news, it's absolutely perfect!!! It has shades of pearl, olive, and gold throughout. We've placed in next to our fireplace in our living room and it's just what this space was begging for. Waiting for the sun to go down so we can get a good shot of it, and I'll share it. Just know that you have your work cut out for you and be sure to have someone tall with some brawn to help unpack it.
