With its garage-inspired design, the Conversational Objects 16-piece cutlery set and cutlery holder are meant to encourage conversation and conviviality at the dining table. The product and presented for the first time to the public at the "La Tavola apparecchiata" ("The set table") exhibition at the WW's exhibition space in Neustifgasse 32 in Vienna, this cutlery was produced by hand in silver and silver plate until 1910-12. The service, which was in dotazione anche al Cabaret Fledermaus, fully reflects the search for functionality combined with extreme formal elegance and refined working of materials that are so typical of the Wiener Werkstatt. And if some contemporaries had reservations on the practicality of some of the pieces (the transversal concavity of the tablespoon was a controversial point), these were quickly dispelled by those who actually used them. Made in 18/10 stainless steel, the cutlery was reissued by Alessi in 2000.

Once upon a time, coral could be found all over the Mediterranean and it was exported across the world in exchange for spices and perfumes. Designer Emma Silvestris has skillfully explored the imagery of the sea world to create this basket, which embodies the essential forms and levity of the organisms that populate the ocean. Designed in 2004, this basket paved the way for the Mediterraneo series.

Sharp, yet with a touch of sensitivity and elegance. Linear, yet with an organic quality of plants. We intend to shift our familiar sensations with chopsticks onto cutlery.

La Stanza dello Scirocco is a range of items suitable for different rooms, such as the kitchen and the living room born out of the abstract and motionless atmosphere of a magic place: The room in large Sicilian country homes where one is forced to seek shelter from the sultriness while waiting for the scirocco to die down. The upshot is a collection of geometrically irregular items made up of small splinters of various sizes, interlaced in an unstable balance.

The 9091 kettle has a melodic whistle made of brass in a shape that has never been seen before and consists of two small vents in which the tuners that reproduce the notes mi and si are inserted. Richard Sapper created this kettle inspired by a childhood remembrance, the poetic sound of boats' sirens at the River Rhine: This is because the melody that accompanies the vapor outlet must be pleasant and not anxious like the whistle of boilers. This induction kettle is a polysensory object that will not interrupt an enjoyable break with a whistle but with a captivating melody.

This collection was Alessi's only model of cutlery. Despite the grim prospects forwarded by those in the sector, the collection proves that its innovative shape and resolute style, along with extreme manageability and an excellent finish, can weather the storm. Over the years, the Dry model has opened up the road for us and various other cutlery sets, though it has always remained well up among the leaders.

Valerio Sommella, born in 1980 and graduated cum laude from the Politecnico of Milan in 2004, began his design career working with Stefano Giovannoni. In 2007 he moved to Amsterdam where he joined Marcel Wanders' team. Since 2009, when he settled down in Milan and opened his design studio, he has designed products in different fields, from furniture to consumer electronic goods and lighting both for Italian and international clients. He alternates this activity by teaching at some Italian universities and design schools.

This is not only a napkin holder but a piece of art. It still look good when it's left emptied. I subtracted 1 star because we have to get an 8"x8" (not a common size) napkin in order for it to look good in the tray. Born in La Spezia in 1954, Stefano, as an architect and designer, was taught by Buti at Florence University. In the early 1980s, he founded the King-Kong production group along with Guido Venturini. A technical designer par excellence, he has industrial design in his DNA and a capacity to understand public sentiment like no other designer mentioned in this catalog. His projects began with the Girotondo (1989, designed by Guido Venturini) and the first transparent plastic objects from the Family Follows Fiction series (1993). There is a vast number of his items in the Officina Alessi, Alessi, and A di Alessi catalogs.

A revolutionary Moka that combines the technology developed by illycaffè and the design experience of Alessi. Designed by Michele de Lucchi, Pulcina encapsulates a small but substantial design innovation that stops dispensing the drink at the right time before the coffee gets a bitter aftertaste. This helps to enhance the full and rich aroma of this drink. The spout, which recalls a chick's beak (hence the name of the coffee maker) allows it to perfectly stop the drop.
