Birds on a Christmas tree are an old idea, and here they arrive hand painted in blue and white, a palette that has signaled good taste in porcelain for centuries. The Ornaments Blue and White Birds Ornament is painted by hand in Italy, so the small figures differ slightly from piece to piece in posture and brushwork. Lightweight glass keeps it manageable on any branch, including the delicate outer ones that cannot take much weight. Made for decorative use, this handmade Italian ornament suits a tree built around a restrained palette as readily as one that has been accumulating for thirty years. Hang it with the rest of the blue and white pieces, or give it on its own to a collector.
