The unit comes in powder coated primer. Be sure to hit it with sand paper if you choose to paint over it. Great post, very sturdy and no one ever mentions the plastic flanged port you place your umbrella into.. no scratches or damage to your pole. Nice big thumbscrew knobs to hold it in place- don't over tighten! base clearance holes are 1/2" right on the money... perfect for rubber pad so rain goes under it and doesn't puddle, not included.. Wonderful stand- heavy duty

What I like about this product is that it is heavy enough to hold an umbrella yet not so large that I am tripping over it.

I purchased this ubmrella stand to use with a Kingsley Bate table which requires a stand with a very flat base. It is quite sturdy and holds the umbrella firmly without any movement, even in windy Nantucket.
