This stunning pair of antique Chinese rosewood armchairs were handmade and carved in the late 19th century. Intricate carvings showcase the skill and artistry of traditional Chinese craftsmanship. Eighteenth-century designs, particularly of the renowned cabinetmaker, Thomas Tufft are the inspiration behind this classic side chair with a restrained expression of the Rococo style prevalent at the time. The unusual passage of carving surrounding the lower quatrefoil enhances the interlaced pointed arches. The molded and c-scroll carved crest centers foliate decoration, above a pierced Gothic volute carved splat and trapezoidal seat frame enclosing a slip seat cushion. The front seat rail has C-scrolls centering a foliate reserve, raised on cabriole legs ending in ball-and-claw feet. Handmade and hand-finished in solid rosewood.

A classic chair inspired by the design elements prominent through the second half of the eighteenth century. The back is relatively flat with a molded c-scroll carved crest, above a pierced central splat, and a trapezoidal seat frame enclosing a slip seat cushion. The cabriole legs end in ball-and-claw feet. Handmade and hand-finished in solid rosewood. An ancient Chinese image of a dragon holding a pearl was the inspiration behind the ball-and-claw feet design which later became the hallmark of early Georgian furniture.
