When we spot a shape that blows us away, the designers at Phillips Collection are not shy about bringing a bit of bling to elemental symbols we see in the woods. A case in point is our Freeform Resin Decorative Stool, which is made of composite in a mix of luminous gold leaf and warm faux bois finish. J83 is a simple, comfortable stool that is among the most iconic designs from the first golden age of FDB Møbler. Jørgen Bækmark, who was head of the FDB Møbler design studio from 1958, designed it to complement the popular J80 and J81 dining chairs, as well as the J82 lounge chair—or armchair, as it was called back in the 1960s. These pieces are part of a design that has literally proved timeless and been popular for generations. Bækmark stressed that furniture should be comfortable, and this is certainly true of the stool, too.

It is a collection designed for the God of the sea, Neptune, and the mermaids that dance in time with the waves. It’s that simple, a summer dream.

Love the concept. Fun, whimsical, cute. Entirely non-functional. All that is fine. Less fine: the quality is junk! The molding has flashing left on at the parting line and there are little chunks missing. Poor quality production of a cute concept. For the money, I was expecting better. Mattiazzi makes furniture in wood. They master the material not only in its traditional form but also using the newest digital production technologies. Medici was born there, on the factory floor where things are physically made. The chair is inspired by the material, by the machinery, and, of course, by the skill and craftsmanship of the people, we worked with. Right from the beginning, I was looking for a distinct grammar for my design, a language that is very true to the material. I like the idea of wood cut into planks which is how it is processed in the first place: the tree is sliced into planks. I like the way a carpenter joins wood, very immediate and direct. The construction remains bare open, plain, and legible. Structure turns into form. Medici is conceived as a low chair with a comfortably reclined posture. Its generous dimension gives the chair embracing confidence. The chair can be imagined as solitary furniture or in small groups. It can be used in private or public, indoors and outdoors.

The seat of the Flex benches is constructed from a series of thin strips of plywood (maple and birch), arranged in a zig-zag pattern. Twisting and folding these long strips creates a solid structure with a very unique aesthetic.

The iconic pieces that make up the Desierto family are inspired by the shapes and sensations of the vast desert landscape. The collection, designed mainly in Tzalam wood, natural colored paper rope, and black rope, combines artisanal and industrial processes. The materials used are ideal for hot climates. The bench in this collection is made up of four cylindrical solid wood legs assembled into a horizontal H-shaped structure that supports the base.

Inspired by the beauty of the moon and a found piece of granite, this tabouret (or stool) is a minimalist dream. Simple, yet elegant and functional, this stool exists to highlight the beauty of the earth through the support of the moon. The Luna is designed for placement anywhere you need a seat (this one specifically lives in our founder’s apartment and she uses it as a part of her dressing routine). It can also be used as a low table for a candle, photos, or trinkets. This is a great addition to a closet, bedroom, living room, or entryway. The base is wood, and the seat is diverted stone. These pieces are generally produced as the stone becomes available but can be produced for commercial projects, if interested inquire. Given the nature of this material and the sourcing, each Luna stool is a one-of-a-kind piece. This is the second of our diverted stone collection which includes our Türmchen incense burners.
