Originally designed for the historic Oslo stock exchange and named after the Roman god of trade, Merkur is a contemporary remake of the archetypal dining chair, refined and elegant in its expression thanks to its considered combination of traditional craftsmanship techniques, timeless form, and modern function.

The back and seat of the Hiab Arm Chair with Armrests Walnut are made up of two series of curved birch plywood ribs arranged progressively. The slight changes between each curve create a nice, comfortable surface. For this reason, the seat and backrest breathe perfectly and make this chair suitable for hot climates or to be used for long periods of time.

The symphony of hand carving begins with the arched stretcher and baluster legs that rise to showcase detailed skirt and rail before this classic Edwardian chair culminates with enviably ornate urn finials and center pediment. Its detail is amazing! This very symmetrical, heavily masculine side chair boasts a hand-rubbed mahogany finish, cushioned seat upholstered in luxuriously patterned jacquard fabric, and custom hand tacking. Our Toscano exclusive has the look and feel of a fine antique.

These chairs are solid, well built, not too heavy and not too light. The wood color is pretty dark so keep that in mind. We enjoy the contrast of the dark wood with our medium-dark table. The fabric design is really nice. The chairs were boxed well to avoid damage. I was allowed to fully inspect them before the delivery guys left.
