The ribbed drum is finished in ivory leather using an artisanal French technique called gainage, in which fabric or, in this case, leather is applied to a hard surface. The metal top features a concentric, etched detail inspired by European watchmaking; the top and bottom metal elements encapsulate the central columnar form.
