I have a beautiful wood French dining table which I want to protect so I regularly use various placements. I purchased milky brown (called taupe in my days) because the color is understated and yields the spotlight to the plates and ultimately to the food on the plates. It goes perfectly with my black dinnerware set as well as with my sage set. You can play up (entertaining guests) or play down (everyday casual) with the type of napkins you use and the centerpiece (conversation piece) on the table. The placemats clean easily which is the most important factor for me. The only negative part is the initial smell which does get better with use.
