The artist, D’Alessandro Léon, was the youngest of three brothers. When art competitions were a form of play for the brothers, it later grew to his obsession. Chris Dunker has photographed industrial culture for over two decades. His Father introduced photography to Chris at an early age. Chris attended Al Weber Workshops and classes at the community college where Chris’s Father taught photography. Dunker earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Art and Design with a photography concentration and a minor in Philosophy from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. In 1995 he completed a Masters of Fine Arts in photography from Utah State University. Chris grew up in China Lake, California which is in the isolated and remote high desert east of the Sierras. This austere and harsh environment is punctuated with mining outposts, rock art, and industrial-military structures, all influences of Dunker’s formative years. A strong interest in industrial music and performance groups like Survival Research Laboratories expanded his understanding of how industrial dynamics could be integrated into art forms and how an aesthetic could be derived from objects of utility. As an Assistant Professor of Photography at Utah State University, Dunker taught History of Photography and many other classes. Research in this field broadened his awareness of how photographers consider the role of industrial culture in relation to the human condition.

The artist has been lucky to have had her childhood passion for art fostered throughout her life via classes, college, and various generous mentors. She took all the art classes she could in school, eventually resulting in a senior year of high school filled with four periods of art and the required English and Math. From the ages of 12-15 she trained under a local oil painter whose paintings were sought after in Iran, and in college was mentored by an illustrator for the Times. Eve received her BFA in painting and illustration from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Though she started with playtime watercolor sets, long years of practice, observation, luck, and dedication are what have allowed her to become a full-time artist today. Eve works with acrylic paint, watercolor, and digitally in Photoshop and Illustrator. She is obsessed with the textures that traditional media can produce and often incorporates these into her digital artwork using a combination of effects, which creates a result that draws the eye in. Eve likes how colors interact in digital formats, and the feeling of depth traditional media lends. The styles that influenced her are minimalism, expressionism and the work of some surrealists captures her interest. Eve’s focus centers on the moments of rest between bustling movements in our everyday lives. The few seconds that pass eerily quietly in a noisy city; the hush that comes over a room just before the birthday person arrives; a glance that stops you in your tracks. Eve likes still moments of hush that give you chills and make you pause to recognize we are all here, alive, right now experiencing the beautiful weirdness of life. To show this, Eve’s abstract subjects are often explored by feelings in the body or reductions of elements of scenes that cause that feeling to occur.

Fern Cassidy was born in Oakland, CA, but grew up in Colorado. She enjoys traveling, being outdoors, food, and painting. Fern studied drawing and painting at CSU Long Beach, where she learned a lot from professors that she trained under, but most of her experience comes from her personal practice. She works in all of the mediums, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, and gouache, but also likes to experiment with textiles and fiber arts. Fern finds opportunities to explore and experiment with colors and shapes. She finds inspiration from daily life and the things around her. “Art is a means to preserve and find meaning in life.”

His education and professional background are in social work, education, and statistics, and I continue to be interested in utilizing social science research to better understand how all people can master themselves and their environments to realize their potential and their dreams. "In my work, I generally don’t go looking for the most amazing waterfalls or vistas or architectural wonders, though I am happy to photograph those amazing subjects whenever I have the chance. Instead, I more typically go out to explore everyday scenes or objects in which wonders exist but often go unnoticed. I would like my work to turn people on to the many amazing things that surround them every day, and the brilliance within that too often goes unnoticed. Like a yellowed leaf that’s fallen on the hood of a deep blue car, or two bright green vines that meet and wrap around each other in an empty space."
